Art Therapy and Learning in Nature
Art Therapy is: Safe, Non-judgemental, Confidential
Welcome to The Walnut Barn
Founded by a qualified Art Therapist (Art Psychotherapist) and teacher, The Walnut Barn supports the wellbeing of children, adults and families, providing Art Therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and Nature Based Learning sessions. We work with children and adults of all ages with complex life circumstances as well as those looking for time in nature away from the bustle of everyday life.
Our trauma-informed approach offers a safe, supportive space for individuals and groups to explore and express their experiences through creative processes and nature-based activities, all while immersed in the calming beauty of the natural environment.
Art Therapy
Our therapy sessions are designed to help you work through trauma at your own pace, providing tools for self-expression and emotional release, guided by a qualified, experienced and compassionate therapist. Sessions can be 1:1 or in small groups according to your needs.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
This psychotherapy technique helps you to process traumatic memories and other distressing life experiences that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing. This structured, trauma-informed approach is supported by a qualified EMDR therapist.
Nature Based Learning
These sessions are developed for schools, specialist groups and individuals that would benefit from a more bespoke programme. We tailer each session for your individual needs, with a focus on hands on activities that engage and promote connection to the natural environment, farming and the creative arts.

Training and Development
We offer bespoke training and development for schools, organisations and families. As a qualified teacher, lecturer, regular trainer in healthcare settings and charities we are experienced at developing engaging and practical guidance in trauma-informed approaches, art therapy, bereavement and learning disabilities.
Testimonials
What Is Art Therapy?
Art therapy (also known as art psychotherapy) is a therapeutic practice that uses art-making alongside talking as a way to explore and express emotions, thoughts, and experiences that might be hard to put into words. This form of therapy is a valuable tool in mental health treatment, art therapists are Allied Health Professionals and as such are regulated by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Art therapy sessions aim to reduce distress and improve social, emotional and mental health by promoting insight and self-compassion. Sessions help individuals articulate difficult emotions, and develop healthier coping mechanisms through the act of making art and engaging with the natural environment.
You don’t have to be ‘good’ at art, the art in art therapy can be anything from collecting natural objects such as leaves and pinecones, sculpting in clay, painting, or simply getting messy and playing with materials. It is up to you what you make and do in each session.
